CNC Turning is a method of cutting the workpiece on the CNC lathe by rotating the workpiece relative to the tool. Most workpieces with revolving surfaces can be processed by turning methods, such as inner and outer cylindrical surfaces, inner and outer conical surfaces, end faces, grooves, threads, and revolving forming surfaces.

1. Types Of CNC Lathes

CNC lathe is a high-precision, high-efficiency automatic machine, mainly used for a variety of complex, high-precision parts.There is 3 types of CNC lathes.
(1) Economic CNC lathe
The economic CNC lathe is improved and designed on the basis of ordinary horizontal lathe.It is suitable for cnc turning of rotary parts with low precision tolerances.

(2) Ordinary CNC lathe
Ordinary CNC lathe is equipped with CNC system according to the turning processing requirements. Its numerical control system is strong,can control X, Z two coordinate axes at the same time.

(3) Turning and Milling composite machine.
Due to the increase of C-axis and milling power head, its processing function is greatly enhanced. It could make radial and axial milling, surface milling, eccentric hole and radial hole processing, etc.

3. What should I pay attention to when turning on a CNC lathe?

(1) Reasonable selection of cutting amount
For metal cnc turning, the material being processed, cutting tools, and cutting conditions are the three major elements. These determine the turning time, tool life and turning quality.With the increase in turning speed, the temperature of the tool tip will rise, which will cause mechanical, chemical, and thermal wear. Cutting speed increased by 20%, tool life will be reduced by 1/2. We should choose the cutting speed to be used according to the material,, hardness, cutting state, material type, feed rate, depth of cut, etc.

(2)Reasonable tools
① When rough cnc turning, choose the tool with high strength and good durability
②When finishing turning, choose the tool with high precision and good durability to ensure the requirements of machining accuracy.

③In order to reduce the tool changing time and facilitate tool setting, machine chucked tools and machine chucked inserts should be used as much as possible

(3). Reasonable fixtures
①Try to use general fixtures to clamp the workpiece, avoid using special fixtures;
② The positioning datums of the parts coincide to reduce positioning errors.

(4) Determine the processing route
The processing route is the movement track and direction of the tool relative to the part during the processing of the index-controlled machine tool. ① It should be able to ensure the processing accuracy and surface roughness requirements;
②The processing route should be shortened as much as possible to reduce the idle travel time of the tool.
